If Jesus lived on the earth now, what could he do that would really impress you? I mean really make you lost for words because it was so amazing. Would it be to take away eating disorders for ever? Heal everyone who has cancer? Put an end to a war? Ask your friends what they think, or go on the SUbmerge Walls and see what people across the world are saying.
Read Luke 8:26–39 and decide exactly what Jesus did for the man.
Think about the thing that would really impress you. Well, what Jesus did for the man here was just as amazing. It’s difficult for us to understand the impact of what Jesus did because you don’t hear much about demon-possession these days. But for those people watching Jesus that day, they would have realised how much power and authority Jesus had. Having shown his power over the natural world in yesterday’s reading, Jesus shows his power over the spiritual world here. Jesus has the power and authority to free the man from the terrible life he was living.
Are you impressed by Jesus’ actions, or do they scare you, like they did the people in the passage (verse 37)? If you are impressed, spend some time praising Jesus for what he can do! If you are afraid or unsure about what Jesus can do, then talk to him about it. Tell him how you feel. Then think if there’s anything in your life where you need Jesus to show his power. Ask him honestly to help you now.
